Few places are as demanding to build in as an international airport. Our team has spent 18 years delivering fit-out, refurbishment and infrastructure works inside live airports – including ticket halls, self-service boarding zones and passenger areas at London Heathrow. Here is what that environment teaches, and why it matters for a kitchen, an office or a full house refurbishment.
Plan to the hour, not to the week
Airport works often run in night shifts with a fixed hand-back time: when an area has to reopen at 5 a.m., late is not an option. That forces detailed planning – materials staged in advance, trades sequenced so nobody waits, and a clear plan for each shift. On a home project the same discipline means fewer idle days and a programme you can rely on.
Permits and paperwork are part of the job
Permit-to-work systems, hot works permits and documented fire stopping are standard practice airside. Nothing is closed up until it has been checked and recorded. That habit carries over: we photograph and record hidden work, such as fire stopping and service routes, so you know what is inside your walls.
Work around people, not over them
Building next to passengers, retail and operations means work has to be clean, contained and quiet. Dust screens, protected routes and spotless housekeeping are the minimum. In a home where a family is still living, or a shop that stays open, that respect for the people around the work makes all the difference.
Finish that survives close inspection
Public spaces in airports are inspected closely before they open. Straight lines, clean junctions and precise finishes are expected, not hoped for – and the same standard applies to a bathroom, a media wall or a stone floor.
Specialist work in-house
Core drilling, fire stopping and structural alterations are handled by our own team rather than passed to strangers, which keeps quality and accountability in one place. Read more about diamond core drilling.
That is the discipline we bring to every home and commercial project. If you are planning work, get in touch for a site visit and quote.
